What you can expect

A small town near Waitomo, Te Kuiti is known as the 'Shearing Capital of the World' and is home to a giant statue of a man shearing a sheep. The town has a population of around 4700 people, however come time for the annual Great NZ Muster, the region is brimming with locals and visitors alike. The Muster is a popular event with the NZ Shearing Champs held during this time as well as the running of the sheep and a festival with food and drink, and arts and crafts stores promoting the district. The event is held in autumn, making between March and May the best time to visit to see the town come to life.
