Hot Water Beach

What you can expect

Who needs to pay for a private spa entry when there's a natural, free hot spring beach on the Coromandel Peninsula? A visit to the aptly-named Hot Water Beach takes advantage of natural underground heating to provide a wholly organic bathing opportunity and is a great adventure for all ages. Grab a shovel and dig yourself a hole (these are available for hire), then enjoy the irony of sitting in warm water just metres from the rolling ocean. Unfortunately the entire beach isn’t hot, the hot water can only be found in front of the projecting rocks on the beach. If you can't find it yourself just ask a local or follow the crowds running with spades! This is the perfect way to escape the cooler months or steam up in the hot days, however the best time to visit Hot Water Beach is within two hours either side of low tide. You’ll join the hoards of people that flock to this usually empty beach to dig themselves a treat.
