Lake Tekapo

The region is known for its recreational activities, however the vibrant turquoise waters are often a drawing card for visitors. The colour of the lake comes from the fine rock-flour which is ground down from glaciers and suspends itself in the water. A popular subject of photography for visitors and locals, at various times throughout the year it is surrounded by purple flowers and green grass, making the scene all the more breathtaking. If you're brave enough to battle the cold waters you can go for a dip, however swimming int he region is best left for the hot springs. A great place to visit if you're looking to photograph some of New Zealand's most incredible sights, Lake Tekapo is a wonderful, year round attraction.
