The region is known for its recreational activities, however the vibrant turquoise waters are often a drawing card for visitors. The colour of the lake comes from the fine rock-flour which is ground down from glaciers and suspends itself in the water. A popular subject of photography for visitors and locals, at various times throughout the year it is surrounded by purple flowers and green grass, making the scene all the more breathtaking.
