Craters of the Moon Geothermal Walk

What you can expect

One of the cheapest geothermal attractions in New Zealand, Craters of the Moon offers incredible views of natural geothermal activity in the Taupo region. The main walking track will take you on a 45 minute loop to visit some of the geothermal sites in the area while the top track adds another 20 minutes to the journey and offers impressive views after a challenging climb. The geothermal grounds are made up of bubbling craters and steaming vents spread over a large stretch of open land. You'll feel as though you're walking through another world when you follow the popular trails. The park is open 364 days a year and charges a small fee of NZ$8 for adults and NZ$4 for children. You can also download the park's smartphone app for Apple and Android to help you navigate and learn about the region.
