Ninety Mile Beach

Stretching from Ahipara to Scott Point, 90 Mile Beach is a must-see when in the area. Located just five kilometres south of Cape Maria van Diemen, the name of the beach is actually inaccurate. The seemingly never ending stretch travels for only 88 kilometres which is in fact around 54 miles however, despite this inaccuracy the beach is still very long and very beautiful. Ninety-Mile Beach is frequented by surfcasters (fishing from the beach), surfers, swimmers and bodyboarders gliding down the surrounding dunes. If you’re after the ultimate beach experience Ninety-Mile Beach is where you should head. Flanking the beach is the Aupouri Forest, providing beach-goers with a cool alternative after they’ve spend a sufficient amount of time in the sizzling hot sun. If your visit lands around late February and early March, you will find the beach flooded with anglers competing in a five-day fishing competition. Hundreds of anglers set themselves up on the beach with hopes of catching the biggest snapper to win the competition.
