Wairere Falls Track

What you can expect

A 153 metre high waterfall located around 10 minutes from Matamata, Wairere Falls is a gem to explore. Reached via a 5 kilometre return trail, Wairere Falls Track will lead you on a 3 to 4 hour journey along a relatively easy walking trail. With plenty of steps and staircases on the trail, the track winds its way around the thick forest before reaching a scenic lookout. The waterfall itself features a two stage drop and in the summer time fills the area with various swimming holes for hikers to enjoy. If you're looking for a more advanced journey in the area, there is an alternative tramping track that travels from the top of the Wairere Falls Track to the east to join the North South Track. This is an advanced level tramping track and is not very well maintained.
