What you can expect

This outstanding spot for some refreshing fun in the sun is one of the Gold Coast's best free things to do with kids. Southport Rockpools is located at the Broadwater Parklands on Marine Parade right on the waterfront, and offers an excellent range of aquatic entertainment for children featuring a man-made creek, a variety of fountains and water jets, artificial waterfalls and more. Ideal for toddlers and younger kids - but with enough to keep older children entertained as well - it's a well-planned and safe area that is monitored by lifeguards throughout the day. In addition, the Southport Rockpools surrounding park area has plenty of facilities to hold a picnic or barbecue, as well as toilets and changerooms, while there's also a cafe to purchase basic food and refreshment. Add in an adjacent playground roughly 200 metres further down that features swings, flying foxes and more playground equipment, and it's an excellent spot for a family day out on the Gold Coast. Parking is available on-street for $2 per hour (metered), or across the road at Australia Fair Shopping Centre which offers 3 hours' worth of parking for free. Be sure to arrive early if possible, as it can quickly become crowded - particularly during school holidays or on hot days.
