What you can expect

If you're looking for an excellent option for something to do to while away the time on those rare wet and rainy days in Caloundra, the Caloundra Regional Art Gallery makes for an ideal choice. Set up as a great initiative to showcase the talents of local artists, the gallery is small on the outside but features a robust collection of art covering a variety of topics and styles. Centrally located in Caloundra, this is a classily done gallery set in a lovely, modern building that remains quite airy despite the volume of artworks contained within. Its main focus is on contemporary works, however there's incorporation of Aboriginal art as well for a more well-rounded overall experience. The Caloundra Regional Art Gallery is run by passionate volunteers who are full of information on the displayed artists as well as interpretation of their works, and are very friendly and welcoming to visitors. The artworks themselves are well curated, and the cross-section of displays provides some great overall insight into the Sunshine Coast region as a whole. It's also home to a surprisingly excellent gift shop that features wonderful, high-quality jewellery - which comes at very reasonable prices compared to some of the more "tourist-trap" offerings elsewhere on the Sunshine Coast - as well as books and other memorabilia. Whether it's to escape from the rain or the hot sun, be sure to pop in to this gallery during your time in Caloundra.
