Built in 1908 of local stone, the Stuart Town Gaol is a must see historical building when visiting Alice Springs! Currently the oldest surviving building in the Alice Springs CBD, the gaol served until the lates 1930’s before a new prison was established. With a small $2.00 entry fee, the Stuart Town Gaol oozes a rich history waiting to be discovered. Housing memorabilia and stories relating to police and prisoner history nowadays, the Stuart Town Gaol is accessible by keys located at the Hartley St School by a refundable deposit. Open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 10.30am until 12pm, the Stuart Town Gaol is one to add to your must do list. For a cheap alternative that is sure to provide you with an eye opening experience, this is one you can’t look past!
