Your Guide to School Holidays in Cairns
Is Cairns a good destination for families with kids?
Cairns is as family friendly as it gets. Think warm days, lush nature, bucket-list adventures and unforgettable wildlife encounters that’ll keep everyone happy, all wrapped up in that tropical goodness (yes, even in winter). A car‘s the way to go, so you can get around with ease and take it all in at your own pace.

Tips for travelling to Cairns with kids
- Stick to pools and the public lagoon, easy way to avoid stinger and crocs
- Hire a car, it’s the best way to get around and do the big day trips
- Buy ginger or seasickness tablets, it’s good to take if you’re prone to seasickness and jumping on a boat
- Pack your own snorkel, not all tours will include it so you’ll avoid hire fees
