What you can expect
Discover Queenstown from the air on a one hour sunrise hot air balloon flight over New Zealand's Southern Alps. Return transfers collect you from central Queenstown or Frankton, and after a comprehensive safety briefing you are welcome to help inflate the balloon before climbing aboard. With an experienced CAA certified pilot in command, you drift to heights of up to 6,000 feet as first light spreads across the basin.
Look out over Lake Whakatipu, The Remarkables, Coronet Peak, Lake Hayes and the Shotover and Kawarau Rivers, with Aoraki Mount Cook and Mount Aspiring on the horizon on clear days. Parts of this landscape appeared in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Once you land, help pack the balloon away, then celebrate in the field with non alcoholic bubbles, freshly brewed tea and coffee and a spread of croissants and danishes.

- In extreme weather conditions the tour may be cancelled if safety is a concern, and participants will be contacted by the experience provider and rescheduled
- Participants must contact the experience provider 45 minutes before their scheduled pickup time to confirm flying conditions
- Booking early in a Queenstown stay is recommended to allow flexibility for weather related rescheduling
- The balloon flight path and landing location vary based on wind and weather conditions
- Views of distant mountains and filming locations are subject to weather and visibility conditions
- Flights depart early in the morning to coincide with sunrise, and pickup times vary throughout the year based on seasonal sunrise times
- The minimum passenger age is 4 years
- Children under 4 years of age are not permitted to fly
- Children aged 4 to 12 years are charged at the child rate
- The maximum individual passenger weight is 136kg
- Participants must provide accurate weight information for operational and safety purposes
- All passengers will be weighed before the flight
- Anyone more than 3 months pregnant is not permitted to fly
- Participants must advise the experience provider before booking if they have mobility restrictions, medical conditions or concerns about participating
- Sturdy enclosed footwear is essential, and sandals and high heels are not suitable
- The experience is operated by a CAA Part 115 certified adventure aviation operator
- Change your booking up to 7 days before the start time of your experience
- Changes are not permitted within 7 days of your experience
- Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience
- Confirmation in the form of a tour voucher will be received at time of booking
- Upon completion of purchase, please print the voucher and present on day of the experience
