Waitangi Treaty Grounds welcomes you on a journey of discovery through New Zealand’s most important historic site.
An absolute ‘must-do’ for all visitors to New Zealand, the award-winning Waitangi Treaty Grounds is one of our nation’s premier attractions and tells New Zealand’s story of two peoples coming together as one, under the Treaty of Waitangi, Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Admission is valid for two consecutive days and includes: Full access to New Zealand’s most important historic site, including all heritage buildings and the world’s largest ceremonial waka, entry to Te Kōngahu Museum of Waitangi, entry to Te Rau Aroha Museum of the Price of Citizenship, informative guided tour around Waitangi Treaty Grounds (50 minutes), immersive Māori cultural experience (30 minutes).
With stunning panoramic views of the Bay of Islands, there is something for everyone. History, culture, sightseeing, entertainment, and more.

- The performance starts with a spine tingling challenge outside, followed by a full performance inside the carved Meeting House including waiata (singing), poi, stick games, Māori weaponry display and the famous haka
- Duration 30 minutes, plus time after the show to interact with the performers, ask questions and take photos

- Driving directions:
- From Auckland take State Highway One north, following the Twin Coast Discovery tourist route, 165 km to Whangarei. Continue on SH1 approximately 60 km further north, to the point where SH1 bends left to the town of Kawakawa. Follow the signs straight ahead at this junction, a further 15 km to Paihia. The waterfront road through Paihia arrives at a roundabout. Waitangi Treaty Grounds is signposted straight ahead, across a narrow vehicle bridge. Driving time approximately 3 hours
- From Bay of Islands airport (Kerikeri):
- Drive south on State Highway 10 approximately 10 km. At the Puketona junction turn off left, signposted to Paihia, approximately 18 km to the oceanfront roundabout. Turn left to Waitangi Treaty Grounds
- New Zealand residents receive discounted admission (ID required)
- Children under 12 FREE

- Comfortable footwear required and a moderate level of fitness
- Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult
- Dogs are not permitted on the Waitangi Estate
- Change your booking up to 48 hours before the start time of your experience
- Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
- Late arrivals or no-shows may result in you forfeiting your experience
- Confirmation in the form of a tour voucher will be received at time of booking
- Upon completion of purchase, please print the voucher and present on day of the experience

I just absolutely loved the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. They are seriously situated on the best real estate over looking the bay. I loved the history of all the culture and it was great that you could just peruse at your own pace!
