The Tekapo Springs Stargazing tour is split into two halves to make the most of your journey through the cosmos. The first half of the experience is guided, with expert astronomy guides providing fascinating insights into the night sky using state-of-the-art telescopes (weather permitting). If it's a cloudy night, your Tekapo Springs Stargazing tour will include a customised virtual reality tour instead.
The second half of your Tekapo Springs Stargazing tour includes exclusive access to the Tekapo Springs hot pools. Soak in the warm waters, ranging from 37.5 - 38.5° C, and let your worries melt away as you gaze up at the stars in a floating hammock. Your expert Tekapo Springs guide will remain at the poolside for this portion of the tour, sharing stories and answering any questions you may have.
Whether you're a seasoned astronomer or simply curious about the famous Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, the Tekapo Springs Stargazing tour will leave you in awe. - Exclusive use of 37.5 - 38.5° C hot pools at Tekapo Springs
- Use of Celestron reflector 9.25 telescopes and Sky-Watcher refractor Esprit 120 telescopes
- Knowledgeable tour guide
- Complimentary towels & robes
- Lockers (available to hire for an additional cost on the day)
- This experience has regular departures between 8:45pm and 11:59pm, 7 days a week
- This experience takes approximately 1.5 hours
- This experience is located at 300 Lake Side Drive, Lake Tekapo (off State Highway 8)
- Departure times vary depending on the season & night sky
- Please make your own way to Tekapo Springs located at 300 Lakeside Drive. Please meet at our Tekapo Springs reception 15 minutes prior to the start of your tour
- Child rate applies to 6-15 yrs old (if you have younger children, please join the earliest tour available)
- A pool wheelchair is available on request
- The hot pools portion takes place regardless of the weather
- Weather Policy - When conditions are unsuitable for telescope viewing, the experience continues with an immersive Virtual Reality journey through the Tekapo night sky. Featuring stunning 360° imagery, Māori star stories and expert storytelling, this unique experience offers a different perspective on the universe, exploring celestial wonders in ways that aren’t possible through a telescope alone.
- If weather conditions result in less than 30 minutes of telescope viewing, a 25% refund of the ticket price will be provided. For Soak in the Stars guests, the hot pool portion of the experience will continue as normal with a guide poolside.
- Change your booking up to 24 hours before the start time of your experience
- Changes are not permitted within 24 hours of your experience
- Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience
- Confirmation in the form of a tour voucher will be received at time of booking
- Upon completion of purchase, please print the voucher and present on day of the experience
- Vouchers can also be presented on your mobile device for this attraction
