What you can expect
Fresh country air and the sound of sheep rustling in the paddocks set the scene for an authentic high-country farming experience at Mt Hay Station. This working Merino sheep farm invites you to witness the skill and tradition behind the process of sheep shearing. Watch as expert shearers carefully remove the fleece and learn how this natural fibre is sustainably produced.
Framed by the stunning Southern Alps, this one-hour experience also includes a sheepdog demonstration, where you'll meet the farm's four-legged workers in action. With the opportunity to feel real wool and take home your own shepherd's whistle and a wool sample, it's a fun and hands-on farm experience for all ages.

- Take home some real Merino Wool and a shepherd's whistle
- Available seven days a week at 9am and 3pm.
- This experience is one hour in duration.
- This experience is located at Mt Hay Station 792 Lilybank Road, Tekapo, Canterbury 7999.
- Please wear sturdy shoes and no fancy clothing.
- Bookings are essential.
- Change your booking up to 24 hours before the start time of your experience
- Changes are not permitted within 24 hours of your experience
- Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience
