What you can expect
The Restorative Journey is more than just bathing. It is a two-hour multisensory experience of spiritual, mental and physical wellness. You will feel culturally enriched and rejuvenated from the therapeutic benefits of geothermal heat, water, mud, and steam. Drawing mineral-rich, deeply restorative waters directly from the earth, our Restorative Journey (Wai Whakaora) delivers a unique therapeutic, relaxing and rejuvenating experience, with every element drawing on the centuries-old legacy of Ngāti Whakaue practices and culture.

What you need to know
- Your journey begins with a Maori prayer (karakia) to prepare your mind, body and soul for your transformative experience before entering the changing rooms
- Step 1: Walk through four sequential streams of water to energise the body
- Step 2: Enjoy a series of hot and cold, wet and dry experiences to invigorate body and soul. In Maori wellbeing practice, moving between extreme temperatures improves vigour and stamina
- Step 3: Soak up the healing properties of our geothermal waters including herbal, hydrotherapy, mineral alkaline and cold plunge. With temperatures ranging from 12 to 41 degrees Celsius, senses continue to be revitalised through the transformative effect of hot and cold experiences
- Step 4: Nourish your skin within our geothermal mud lounge. Self-apply naturally occurring mud infused with Indigenous plant and oil extracts before reclining on heated rock beds for the mud to set and work its magic
- Step 5: The final area to relax and reflect is the dark misty steam room with heated stone. Feel your skin become silky smooth and the transformation this wellness journey has had on your mind, body and soul
- Your journey ends with a Maori prayer (karakia) before returning to the changing rooms
- Two-hour multisensory experience

- Smart casual cand comfortable clothes to change back into is recommended
- We highly recommend you bring your flip flops/crocks
- Limited swimwear available for purchase, please bring your own or purchase prior to arriving at Wai Ariki Spa
- We recommend removing jewelry and leaving at your accommodation or removing before starting the Journey
- Notice to change your date and time is required no less than 30 minutes prior to your confirmed booking time. Rescheduling is subject to availability. We will do our best to accommodate any changes
- The Restorative Journey is restricted to 16 years of age and above
- Members not participating can wait in the reception lounge or cafe area or return to the spa when guests have finished.
- This experience is not suited for pregnant women due to the high temperatures
- Bathing suits are required to be worn at all times
- Young adults should bring ID
- Wheelchair hoist requirements into the pools and any other special support services are required at the time of booking
- Any medical conditions (e.g., hearing, sight, skin sensitivity, heart) or serious allergies are to be advised at the time of booking or 48 hours before your arrival
- We recommend 15 minutes of check-in before your session time
- No-shows and Late check-in or failure to contact our team at least 30 minutes before the confirmed check-in time will be cancelled with no refund given
- Changes to dates and times with no additional cost are subject to availability
- Confirmation in the form of a tour voucher will be received at time of booking
- Upon completion of purchase, please print the voucher and present on day of the experience
- Mobile Vouchers are accepted! - Vouchers can also be presented on your mobile device for this attraction
