Discover the secrets of whisky ageing on a one hour guided tasting class in the heart of Western Queensland, where the Outback itself plays a part in every glass. Led by an expert team member, you will start with the fundamentals of how whisky is made, from fermentation and distillation through to the science of maturation. From there, explore how time, climate, wood, char and cask history shape a spirit's character, and learn what makes this remote outback setting so different from the traditional whisky regions of the world.
Along the way you will work through four tastings, beginning with raw newmake spirit before moving through a range of cask finishes at different stages of maturation. With an Ironbark smoked Old Fashioned in hand on arrival and light refreshments to keep you going, you will pick up the techniques to recognise and describe flavour profiles like a professional. Perfect for curious first timers and seasoned whisky lovers alike, it is a relaxed and hands on way to taste the Outback in every drop.
