What you can expect
Set off on a full-day journey from Franz Josef to Queenstown, travelling through some of New Zealand’s most spectacular alpine and coastal scenery. Begin your adventure in Franz Josef village, travelling to the iconic Lake Matheson, surrounded by the peaks of Aoraki/Mt Cook and the Southern Alps. Continue south to Bruce Bay and Ship Creek, where rainforest meets the Tasman Sea, and you get the chance to stroll along the West Coast beaches.
From there, journey deeper into the Southern Alps, stopping at the 28-metre Thunder Creek Falls and travelling through the breathtaking Haast Pass into Mount Aspiring National Park. Along the way, marvel at the turquoise waters of Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka, pausing for an iconic photo of “That Wanaka Tree.” The final stop is at the historic Cardrona Hotel, one of New Zealand’s most photographed landmarks, before reaching Queenstown.
