What you can expect

There is no better way to soak up the majesty of Milford Sound/Piopiotahi than aboard the Fiordland Jewel. Our purpose-built catamaran is designed to take in this incredible location, often known as the Eighth Wonder of the World, in total comfort. The Fiordland Jewel with a high quality marine fit-out, features an onboard helipad, on-deck hot-tub, kayaks, tender, and superb cuisine. Plus licensed bar.

Our boat offers nine climate-controlled cabins, each with an ensuite bathroom ranging in room type from:

  • 1 The Governor Suite - At the top of the boat all by itself with its own full-width forward window and large side windows. Super-King double bed, the ensuite has a separate shower and toilet.
  • 4 Captain Cook King - All on the main deck all with sea views. Super-King double bed, each ensuite has a separate shower and toilet.
  • 2 Endeavour Cabins - Both are on the main deck with sea views. 2 x King single beds, each ensuite has a separate shower and toilet.
  • 2 Resolution Cabins - Both are on the main deck with sea views. 2 single bunks/ 4 x single beds, each ensuite has a combined shower and toilet.

What you need to know

  • Two cruises of Milford Sound - afternoon & morning.
  • 3-course plated dinner, cooked & continental breakfast prepared by our onboard chef - all dietary requirements are catered for. Please advise of any dietary requirements.

  • Kayaking & tender boat explorations (weather permitting)
  • Following dinner guests can view spectacular underwater video footage captured by our ROV in Fiordland’s marine reserves plus aerial footage of remote areas of Fiordland National Park
  • Use of top-deck hot tub following dinner
  • DAY 1
  • Arrive at the Milford Sound terminal
  • Cruise down the southern side of the fiord, past Bowen Falls, Sinbad Gully, the world-renowned Mitre Peak, Mt Pembroke, Bridal Veil Falls and Fairy Falls
  • If weather permits, we cruise into the mouth of the fiord past Anita Bay, and head into the Tasman Sea for a glimpse of the West Coast, before returning into the sound
  • Venture up the north side of the fiord past Dale Point, the Piopiotahi Marine Reserve, Seal Rock, Stirling Falls, The Lion and the Cascade Range
  • After cruising, we anchor at Deepwater Basin for the night. There is the opportunity to explore nearby in the on board sea kayaks and tender boat, before returning to the Fiordland Jewel for drinks and a three-course meal
  • DAY 2
  • Dawn arrives at 6:00am in December but can be as late as 8:00am in March. Watch the sunrise over continental breakfast, which is served 7:00am-8:00am, before returning to the terminal at 9:00am
  • Return to Queenstown or Te Anau
  • 2026/27 season - Fiordland Discovery guests can park in the main car park and pay the Overnight Cruise rate of $30 from 2.00pm .
  • It is an approx. 10 minute walk from the parking to the wharf. Payment is inside the terminal at the pay machine designated for overnight parking. This is a licence plate recognition system and accepts card payment only.
  • PLEASE NOTE: If parking prior to 2pm the NZD$10 hourly rate applies (payment at the machines in the car park)
  • It is recommended to allow up to 45 minutes for parking and 15-minutes for the scenic walk to the Visitor Terminal
  • Alternatively, limited free parking can be found in the Deep Water Basin Car Park. This is a left-hand turn just before you enter Milford Sound /Piopiotahi. From this parking area, it’s an approx. 20 minute scenic walk to the Visitor Terminal.
  • Please ensure you leave enough time to park your car and check in at 2.35pm.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Parking is not available in the coach park bays at the terminal building for our check-in time
  • CHECK-IN is 2.35pm, BOARDING the boat 2.50pm. The boat has departed the wharf by 3.10pm. The boat arrives back to the wharf the next day approx. 8.45am
  • Operating Dates : MILFORD SOUND OVERNIGHT CRUISES: Saturday October 31, 2026 to Sunday April 25, 2027
  • Wharf timings are strict and if you are late the boat is unable to return to the wharf.
  • An overnight experience, duration is 17 hours
  • This experience takes place in Milford Sound onboard the Fiordland Jewel, a purpose-built catamaran
  • Check-In Time: Between 2:30 pm and 2:30 pm
  • Check-Out Time 9:00 am

  • Maximum group size on our overnight cruise is 22 passengers
  • Please advise in advance of any dietary requirements for our chef's preparation
  • All areas of the vessel are non-smoking
  • Unfortunately wheel chair access is not available due to stairs
  • Please only bring an overnight bag only, if possible
  • We have a licensed bar for beverage purchases.
  • Alcohol is not to be brought on board, as this will breach our NZ liquor license
  • We welcome children 6 years and older (adult fares apply), not suitable for children or infants 5 years and under. We are unable to supply additional beds/cots.
  • Please contact us if a Queenstown or Te Anau van transfer is required (subject to availability)
  • Change your booking up to 7 days before the start time of your experience
  • Changes are not permitted within 7 days of your experience
  • Late arrivals or no-shows may result in you forfeiting your experience
  • Confirmation in the form of a tour voucher will be received at time of booking
  • Upon completion of purchase, please print the voucher and present on day of the experience
  • Vouchers can also be presented on your mobile device for this attraction
