The Roundhouse

What you can expect

Western Australia's oldest standing public building, the Round House in Fremantle is perched above Bathers Beach overlooking the Indian Ocean. A dodecagon shape, the twelve-sided building was originally built as a goal back in 1831 for locals who had broken the law. After transforming into a police lock up, then Water Police accommodations and Fremantle Ports storage facility, the Round House has now become a popular tourist attraction for visitors to Fremantle. You can enjoy a tour of the Round House thanks to the friendly and informative Fremantle Volunteer Heritage Guides, who know about the building and the region's rich history. An informative experience for all ages to enjoy, the Round House fires a cannon off daily at 1pm, with visitors having the chance to trigger the shot. This is a great attraction for visitors interested in learning about Fremantle's rich history, the Round House can be visited on your own or with an organised tour.
