What you can expect

Established over a century ago, the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens are a must visit for a relaxing and scenic day out in Darwin! After surviving a number of cycles, and the direct effects of World War Two, the gardens nowadays showcase a large array of beautiful flora to visitors daily. One of only few botanic gardens in the world to have marine and estuarine plants naturally in its grounds, the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens are overflowing with uniqueness. Located close to the city, the gardens are only a short drive from the centre, or a 30 to 45 minute walk if you’re up for it. Spread across 42 hectares, the gardens boast gorgeous landscaping along with the Wesleyan Church, playgrounds and barbecues perfect for picnicking to really take in all the beauty of the grounds. Explore the gardens upon one of the self-guided walks and discover the rich history of this magnificent property – don’t forget to keep an eye out of the large number of birds that have made the grounds home! Open every day, there is no reason why you can’t fit a visit to the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens into your Darwin itinerary!
