What you can expect
After enjoying a day of sights and activities at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, your evening will begin at Whare Waka Café, where you will be greeted by your host and will finish back at the café where you will be seated for your exclusive hāngī feast.
Enjoy a complimentary drink on arrival as you mix and mingle in the charming outdoor setting at Whare Waka Café.
Your charismatic and informative host will guide you through the evening’s events. Watch as the expert hāngī chef unveils your dinner and explains the traditional cooking process.
Be transported back in time as you follow your host on an immersive bush walk, where you will be approached by Māori warriors before you experience a traditional challenge (wero).
Prepare to be amazed as the resident performing arts group, Te Pitowhenua, entertains you with a high-energy cultural performance.
Enjoy a delicious buffet dinner of various meats, stuffing, vegetables, breads, salads and steamed pudding for dessert.

What you need to know
- Guided tour 50 mins – one of our local guided , many of which are descended from those who signed the treaty tell the story of the journey of Māori and European arrival in to New Zealand. Taking in the flagstaff( the spot where the treaty was signed), the Treaty House, the carved meeting house and the world’s largest ceremonial war canoe.
- Cultural Experience 30 mins - Experience a fun filled and spine tingling performance of singing, poi, stick games, Maori weaponry, as well as the famous haka. All performances begin with a traditional Māori powhiri (welcome/challenge) outside the carved Meeting House. After the show meet the performers, ask questions and take photos with the team.
- Access to Te Kōngahu Museum of Waitangi – a state of the art Museum built in 2016 which explains the events leading up to the Treaty and beyond
- Access to Te Rau Aroha/ The price of Citizenship Museum - a memorial to the Maori Battalions built in 2019
- Pass is valid for 2 days
- Hāngī & Concert begins at 17:30 at the Whare Waka Café.

- The Hangi & Concert runs for approximately 2.5 hours in duration.
- This experience takes place at 1 Tau Henare Drive, Waitangi, Bay of Islands
- Comfortable clothing, footwear and sun protection.
- A light jacket is recommended for the evening.
