What you can expect
Experience the thrill of white-water rafting on the Tongariro River. Your journey begins with the friendly crew getting you all the necessary gear, including a wetsuit, river shoes, a helmet, and a life jacket. After a quick safety briefing, you’ll hit the water for two hours and 30 minutes of action, going down 60 rapids spread across thirteen kilometres of river. You'll also get to take in the stunning natural scenery, including native bush, volcanic cliffs, and clear blue water, while passing through the more peaceful parts.
Your professional guides will coach every paddle command, ensuring a fun and safe adventure, no matter your previous experience level. When the rafting ends, return to base where you can warm up with a hot shower and look through the photos of your trip. This adventure is perfect for families, first-timers, and thrill-seekers, delivering pure New Zealand excitement from start to finish.

- SUMMER (Nov 1 – March 31) - 9am and 2pm
- APRIL (April 1 – April 30) - 9am and 1pm
- WINTER (May 1 – Oct 31) - 12pm
- This experience is approximately four hours in duration.
- This experience departs at Tongariro River Rafting, 133 Atirau Road, Tūrangi 3334.
- Swimwear and a towel
- Any necessary emergency medications
- Minimum age is 11 years old
- Each child aged 11 and 12 years old must be accompanied by one adult
- Trips may be changed or cancelled for weather, river conditions, or client suitability
- The operator cannot guarantee safety or accept liability for injury or loss if instructions aren’t followed
- Change your booking up to 48 hours before the start time of your experience
- Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
- Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience
- Confirmation in the form of a tour voucher will be received at time of booking
- Upon completion of purchase, please print the voucher and present on day of the experience
- Mobile Vouchers are accepted! Vouchers can also be presented on your mobile device for this attraction
