Mount Tauhara Climb

What you can expect

A rugged yet scenic trail, climbing to the top of Mount Tauhara in Taupo is a completely free experience not to be missed. Located a short 10 minute drive from central Taupo, climbing Mt Tauhara is a challenging yet rewarding journey. The first part of the trail is relatively steep and traverses private land, so hikers are asked to be respectful and cautious when walking. The track's halfway point is marked by a bench, and from here the climb does get a little easier. Walking around New Zealand native trees and running streams, you'll be surrounded by various native animals that you might not be able to see but will definitely be able to hear. Once you've reached the top of the hike you'll be treated to incredible views of Central North Island stretching out to Mt Ruapehu and White Island. Standing at 1008 metres above sea level, this is a memorable experience that will reward those up for the challenge. A track reserved for those with a decent level of fitness, the steep climb and muddy tracks are challenging but once you've made it to the peak, all of your worries will disappear.
