The Ginger Factory Review

By Michelle Woodruff

The Ginger Factory is located in Yandina on the Sunshine Coast is located in Yandina and is a great attraction for families of all ages with curious young ones. Home to a number of great attractions within, I recently visited the factory with a friend and her two young children and had a great time!

Combining information on the ginger making process with enjoyable attractions and informative tours and presentations, this is a great day out the whole family will enjoy, young and old alike. While entry to the park itself is free, the tours are at a fee and are great additions if you're eager to learn about the factory while exploring.

What you'll do

I was lucky enough to visit The Ginger Factory and took with me two small children, 3 and 6 years years of age. We obtained the Super Pass in order to allow us to experience all activities and tours whilst in the park and from the exhaustion of the kids at the end of the day it was evident they had the absolute best time thanks to the pass!

Enjoy the rides

Upon arriving at the park, our first point of call was Overboard attraction. this is a tame 'ride' that the young ones will love!

The Ginger Factory Ride

Seated in a small boat, you'll float around the station trying to spot the illusive Gingerbread Man as he hides within various scenarious depicting scenes from all around the world including the aptle named 'Ginger Rouge'. This was a great and interactive attraction that had the kids looking left, right and centre in search of the Ginger Bread Man to see how many they could count at the end of the boat ride.

Taste the treats

Shortly after this, we went to have a browse of The Ginger Shop and ended up purchasing a few delicious ginger bread cookies. The kids were then about to decorate their own ginger bread men and loved the chance to get hands on with decorating. This was a fun little activity for them and they loved finishing it off at the end.

The shop also sold a range of ginger products, it was a hard decision to decide what not to get. You'll find a range of designer kitchenwear, beauty lotions, homewares and gourmet foods. This is the only place whre you'll find the largest collection of Buderim Ginger products in the world.

Ride the train

The Ginger Factory Train Ride

The next stop on the agenda was the Ginger Train, a scenic train ride around the grounds. We climbed aboard the historic train name 'Moreton' and travelled at a slow and comfortable pace around the grounds taking in views of the beautiful sub-tropical gardens the park is surrounded by.

The kids were excited at the thought of the train and once they were on board they loved every second of it. Eagerly peering out the carriage sides to take in the surroundings, once the ride was over they wanted to hop back on!

The train departs the station every half hour from 9:30am until 4:30pm every day of the week.

Take a Factory Tour

The factory tour is a definite must on any visit to The Ginger Factory and teaches visitors about ginger growing, harvesting and production. You'll learn all you need to know and be shown live demonstrations of the machines as well as history of the region.

The tour, in fact your whole visit, isn't complete without some delicious ginger tastings. The Ginger Factory produces the finest ginger in the world and once you've tasted it you'll soon understand why - yum!

Tours of the factory run every day at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm and 3:30pm, so be sure to join in on at least one of the tours.

Tour The Super Bee

Continuing with the fun, we attended the Super Bee experience, a tour through a live bee hive. Thee tour was very informative, interactive and entertaining and was equally enjoyable for us adults as it was for the kids. Led by an experienced beekeeper you'll abe able to learn about the honeybee and all of their hard work.

The Ginger Factory bee keeper

Following the tour, we were able to taste some fresh honey straight from the hive. This was a nother hit with the kids as they had learnt how the honey is made, where it came from, watch the bees hard at work and could taste the final products. We also purchased a few honey products to take home and enjoy later in the day.

Explore the park

Whilst we were there we also explored the gardens surrounding the factory which are lovely. We grabbed a few delicious nibbles from the café which, to say the least, were delicious and we continued to browse the retail shops.

Overall, this was a great day out on the Sunshine Coast that entertained the kids as well as us adults. It is something I highly recommend during if you're visiting the Sunshine Coast, passing through or staying in the nearby capital of Brisbane.
