What you can expect

Discover and explore the real Middle-earth at the original Hobbiton Movie Set Tour from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films. Set near the quaint regional North Island town of Matamata, it is easy to see why this picturesque, rolling, Waikato farmland was chosen to bring Tolkien’s Hobbiton to life. Your insightful, local guide will take you on an unforgettable journey of this captivating landscape, visit the home of Bilbo Baggins and Frodo, take a wander around the Shire and even sit under the famous “Party Tree”.

There are plenty of amazing photo opportunities to be had and your friendly guide is full of insights into the making of the films in this spectacular location. After filming was completed for Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit”, Hobbiton was left behind, beautifully re-designed and constructed with thoughtful consideration to the smallest detail and is now available for the enjoyment of visitors and fans alike. This experience will take you on an enchanting journey into Middle-earth, definitely a must for all Lord of the Rings fans!

I have to admit I’ve only watched one Lord of the Rings film

I have to admit I’ve only watched one Lord of the Rings film, so only hold basic knowledge however the set was an unforgettable experience. The weather was perfect, our tour guys was lovely, funny and informative. The farmland was incredible, the set was incredible and the complimentary beer afterwards went down like a treat. Definitely worth a visit!
