What you can expect

Follow the sparkling path of the Marama light trail in this one-hour self-guided night trail past active geysers and light shows. Just on the outskirts of Rotorua lies the geothermal valley of Te Puia where you will experience a magical 1.5km light trail guided by light and sound. Start your adventure at the colourful entry and let the interactive art and light installations guide your way. Every step brings new surprises, moving laser shapes, dazzling geyser eruptions, everything is meant to enhance the natural landscape and vegetation.

Local artist Maisey Rika has created the soundscape which guides you through the trail and offers another layer of culture and emotions along the way. If you want to take a break, make a stop at the Terrace for a yummy treat or a warm drink before continuing to the incredible Pohutu Geyser. Watch as it shoots up water high into the air and the lights interact with it, creating a magical show of nature and art. Wander through the traditional Pikirangi Village and finish with the breathtaking glow of Te Ao Marama lighting up the valley. This family-friendly experience suitable for all ages is great to explore the natural wonders of the region in a new light.
