The Allied Rock Wallabies

Magnetic Island is one of the only places in Australia that is home to Allied Rock Wallabies. With hundreds calling the island home, these animals have become one of the island biggest drawing cards. Best of all, these cute creatures are so tame that they’ll even let you get up close and feed them. Commonly found just before sunset in Arcadia near the pier, these island icons will quickly become your best friend if you bring along some food. It is asked that guests only feed the wallabies either apple, sweet potato, carrot, papaw rockmelon or wallaby pellets that are available from the newsagency – tip, we hear they have a soft spot for sweet potato. Simply take a seat on the ground, break up some of your goodies and watch as these wallabies flock to you. Boasting a very friendly personality, the rock wallabies are very curious and are often known to even come take a seat in your lap with you.
