Cape Hillsborough National Park

What you can expect

An iconic destination located on the outskirts of Mackay, Cape Hillsborough is known for its friendly and inquisitive locals; wallabies and kangaroos. Showing face at dusk and dawn, you'll often find visitors inching closer to the kangaroos as they take advantage of the beautiful beach. These wild animals are quite familiar with humans and are known to approach you, however be cautious as these are unpredictable animals. Cape Hillsborough is an ideal day trip destination as throughout the day the beach and national park is glistening and beautiful to explore. There are five scenic walking trails winding through the National Park, traversing Melaleuca woodlands and mangroves. There are also picnic tables located just behind the beach as well as numerous parking spots and a caravan park. Just be sure to bring some insect repellent as the sandflies and mosquitoes have a strong presence in the region.
