What you can expect

Spread over 25 hectares of land in the beautiful region of Hamilton, Hamilton Zoo is an ideal wildlife experience for all ages to enjoy. Home to more than 600 animals include animals native to New Zealand and from all over the world, you can spend the day mingling with all different types of mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds. Some of the animals you'll see at the zoo include a cheetah, giraffe, chimpanzee, red panda, meerkat, and a sumatran tiger to name a few. Throughout the day you'll also be able to enjoy various talks, demonstrations and feedings run by the friendly and experienced zoo keepers. These talks are all free of charge and are held at various times throughout the day. Some of the zookeepers you'll be able to learn from include the meerkat, hunting dogs, tiger and rhino keepers. Check the website for talk times on the day of your visit. If you're wanting a little more out of your visit to Hamilton Zoo, you can buy an animal encounter experience. You can choose from an 'Eye2Eye' encounter to go behind-the-scenes with some of the zoo's most interesting animals, a 'Face2Face' encounter, an un-bookable, first in best dressed encounter, you'll be able to go hands on with some of the animals, or a 'Meet the Zookeeper' encounter, where you an talk to keepers about their job and the animals for free.
