Darwin Harbour Sunset Cruise Review

Darwin Experience Expert
Darwin sunsets are world famous, and rightly so, they are amazing! Without a doubt the best way to see our fabulous sunsets is to get out onto the harbour.
For front-row sunset seats check out Darwin Harbour Cruises. Think panoramic harbour views, sublime pink and orange skies, a chilled tropical vibe, a glass of champagne icy beverage or two and a bucket of prawns – perfect!
Recently we had a date night sans kids with these guys on their leisurely 2 ½ hour sunset cruise. It was so relaxing and so beautiful and reminded me why I love this northern city so much. It was the perfect way to end the day.
The cruise departs from Stokes Hill Wharf at 6pm and returns at 8.30pm with boarding at 5.45pm. The cruise operates from April to mid-December.
How to get there
The boat leaves from Dock 3 at Stokes Hill Wharf. You can drive and park on Stokes Hill Wharf which is easy. Once you arrive take a wander down towards the end of the wharf and you’ll meet a friendly staff member who will direct you to the boat. They start boarding people 15 minutes before departure.
Highlights
Dazzling world class sunsets
Jaw dropping sea views
Totally relaxing way to end the day
Friendly, helpful and welcoming staff
Interesting and informative commentary
All aboard!
You’ll be warmly greeted by the Darwin Harbour Cruise team as you jump onto the boat. They will show you to a table in the downstairs area. Here you’ll be given an overview about the cruise and the all-important safety briefing.
You’ll also get the low down on what’s on the menu and you can order food and drinks straight up, or whenever it suits you! We opted for the bucket of prawns and champagne, being a special date night and all - but there are other moreish options and a good selection of wines.
Head on upstairs!
Then it’s time to hit the top deck. You won’t be disappointed when you saunter up the stairs and get your first glance at the view. The top deck is awesome. It’s set up with chairs and tables – all with great views. There is a friendly relaxed vibe amongst the guests.
The commentary
If you want to learn a bit about the Darwin’s history and landmarks around the harbour tune in to the interesting commentary from Dave on Darwin’s history, landmarks and other interesting facts. I’m a local and I learnt heaps!
Munch munch
You can purchase a light dinner or snack from the menu with options like tasty local prawns, freshly shucked South Australian oysters, seafood platters, cheese plates, antipasto and mango ice cream, yum! You can also order champagne, wine, beer and more from the bar.
Buffet Dinner Option
There’s also the option for the Sunset Buffet Dinner Cruise where the food is included in the price of the ticket if that tickles your fancy. I was shown the smorgasbord of delights on offer and it looked mighty tempting!
What’s included
Commentary about Darwin history and landmarks
Friendly top-notch service
2.5-hour cruise
A licensed bar if you want to order drinks and a menu with tasty options (extra charge)
What to bring
Camera or your smart phone
Sunnies and a hat
Your wallet for food and drinks
My Recommendations
A Darwin harbour cruise is a must on any Darwin itinerary. Perfect for a date night, a group of friends or your extended family – it’s the perfect way to soak up the Darwin ambience!
