What you can expect

A flourishing spectacle of vibrant flora, the Christchurch Botanic Gardens are a popular, relaxing destination for both locals and visitors alike. Spread over 21 hectares of land, over the years the gardens have grown to become a pillar of beauty for the city. With a number of different floral exhibits, including Art in the Gardens, Flowering Gardens, New Zealand Gardens, Conservatories and Trees and Open Spaces, you could easily spend hours wandering around these perfectly manicured and curated grounds, admiring the hard work of the grounds keepers. The Gardens are open on daily basis from 7am until 6:30pm with free entry for everyone. However, if you'd like to take a tour around the grounds to learn about the different flowers and the history o the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, you can do so for a small fee of $10 per person. Run by volunteer guides, the 1.5 hour tours depart once a day at 1:30pm from the Canterbury Museum. The Caterpillar Garden Tours also operate around the grounds with a guided audio tour on their electric shuttles - these tours cost $20 for adults and $9 for children.
