What you can expect
Paddle into a magical nighttime adventure with a two-hour bioluminescence kayak tour on Auckland’s calm waters. After meeting your friendly guide, you’ll be geared up with your kayak and personal flotation device before launching into the peaceful evening waters. As the sun dips below the horizon and darkness settles in, the water starts glowing with soft blue-green shimmers of bioluminescent plankton. This natural light show is created by microscopic organisms called dinoflagellates, and you’ll be gliding right through their glowing world.
Your guide will lead you to the best viewing spots, where you can move your hands through the water and watch it sparkle. Along the way, you’ll learn fascinating facts about bioluminescence, from how it works to why it lights up at night. Returning to shore, you’ll carry with you a sense of wonder and the memory of a truly unique Auckland adventure.

- Comfortable clothing (no jeans)
- Thin merino or thermal shirt

- This tour runs only when the wind and rain are favourable for nighttime sea kayaking
- More than 1 months’ notice: 25% charge of contract
- Between 7-30 days’ notice: 50% charge of contract
- Less than 7 days’ notice: 75% charge of contract
- Less than 24 hours’ notice: 100% charge of contract
