What you can expect
Step inside the Alice Springs School of the Air Visitor Centre on a 30 minute guided tour and discover one of Australia's most fascinating Outback stories. Learn how the world's first School of the Air has delivered lessons to students scattered across remote Australia for more than 75 years, earning its title as the world's largest classroom.
Your friendly guide leads you through a 10 minute film, a 10 minute history talk and a 10 minute studio presentation, sharing tales of innovation, resilience and everyday life in the bush. Browse the interactive displays and, during school hours, you may have the opportunity to observe a teacher conducting a live lesson in one of our five broadcasting studios, right in front of you! At times, our teachers and our students take well deserved breaks! During these times live lessons will be replaced with pre-recorded lessons. Easy to reach and suitable for all ages, this is a genuine slice of Outback life that brings the the world’s largest classroom vividly to life.

- Available Sunday from 12pm to 3pm
- Available on public holidays from 1.30pm to 4.30pm
- Closed: Good Friday 3 April 2026 and 24 December 2026 - 03 January 2027 (inclusive)
- This experience is 30 minutes in duration, though we recommend allowing at least 45 minutes for your full visit.
- This experience meets at the Alice Springs School of the Air Visitor Centre, 80 Head Street, Braitling, Alice Springs, NT 0870.
- Maximum group size is 50 people
- Assistance animals are welcome
- Accessible toilet facilities are not available on site
- Wheelchair and walker access is available throughout the Visitor Centre
- Participant changes are allowed. Please contact experience provider
- Change your booking up to 48 hours before the start time of your experience
- Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
- Late arrivals or no shows may result in you forfeiting your experience
- Confirmation in the form of a tour voucher will be received at time of booking
- Upon completion of purchase, please print the voucher and present on day of the experience
