Mount Coolum National Park

What you can expect

The main attraction at Mount Coolum National Park is the mountain itself, with visitors and locals constantly embarking on the challenging yet rewarding trek up the mound. This impressive dome shaped mound rises 208 metres above the sea level and is visible from various areas around the Sunshine Coast. The walking trail up to the stunning lookout point is recommended for fit walkers only and is considered a Class 4 trail. For those up for the challenge, follow the trail up the mountain for spectacular, panoramic views of the hinterlands and Sunshine Coast area, a truly beautiful site after a strenuous climb. The trail itself isn’t too long - totalling 1.6 kilometres return - however it is quite steep with some rough and unstable rocks to climb when you’re nearing the top. Walkers should set aside at least 2 hours to complete the trip up and down, more if you’re wanting to take a longer break at the top. Climb the trail early in the morning to beat the heat and to experience the sunrise from this amazing vantage point - in Winter and Spring, wildflowers flourish atop the mountain.
