What you can expect

One of the major highlights of the lush Sunshine Coast hinterland, the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve is one of the last remaining bastions of the original rainforest, and is an excellent multi-purpose attraction covering wildlife, natural scenery, wonderful lookout and dining options all in one. The reserve lies in the inlands of Noosa and spans 55 hectares worth of subtropical rainforest that's home to a large amount of diversity in both animal and plant life; taking a stroll through one of its wonderful rainforest walks provides visitors with the chance to spot an array of native wildlife including wallabies, pademelons and other marsupials as well as numerous species of birdlife - such as the colourful Wompoo pigeon. There's over 2 kilometres worth of walking tracks and platforms that provide a journey under the canopy, and its level, well-kept boardwalks make for an accessible natural attraction for both prams and wheelchairs alike. The diversity in offerings here means that there's truly something for everyone; Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve also offers great picnic and playground facilities for families, as well as an impressive lookout point overlooking the spectacular Glasshouse Mountains in the distance. Those without their own food can purchase a light lunch and refreshments at the surprisingly good cafe, as well, while extra insight into the history and ecology of the reserve can be gained via the reserve's Education Centre that simply requires a gold coin to enter. A hub for natural relaxation and environmental exploration, the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve is a must-visit for those looking for a getaway from the coast.
