Tomaree Head Summit Walk

What you can expect

For beautiful views of the Port Stephens area and surrounding north coast, make your way around Tomaree Head Summit Walk. Just a 2 kilometre walk return, this hike is perfect for those who don’t mind an up hill challenge. This medium grad hike is absolutely free, reaching a height of around 160 metres above the entrance. Along the track, beautiful views of the idyllic area are visible, indicating just how stunning the views will be from the top. If you make it to the top you’ll be able to enjoy panoramic views of sights such as Cabbage Tree, Yacaaba Head, Broughton Islands and Boondelbah from the north platform. The South platform boasts views of Zenith, Wreck and Box Beaches, Fingal Island and the popular Port Stephens Lighthouse. Nature lovers will also enjoy this walk as the nature reserve houses the only nesting sites in the world for the endangered Gould’s petrel. Also, depending on the time of year you visit, you might be able to see some dolphins playing in the waters, be sure to pack some binoculars and a camera. Walkers are advised to allow at least 1 hour to complete the walk, however there’s not saying how much time you could spend gazing out over the picturesque scenes. There is also a picnic table at the lookout, making for the perfect spot for a bite of lunch or mid-hike snack.
