What you can expect

Pack your beach towel and set yourself up for the day on Fingal Beach. Located in Fingal Bay, the beach is a 1.5 kilometre sandy shore curving around the bay with a rocky entrance. One of the best surfing beaches in the region, high waves frequently hit Fingal Beach making it a surfers dream. The northern end of the beach frequently sees waves just over 1 metre crash on the beach, however further south down the beach, the waves usually reach an average of less than half a metre. Swimmers are urged to be cautious as large waves can bring with them strong rips. Swimming is allowed between the flags or at the sheltered southern end of the area as a majority of the beach is considered to be quite hazardous to beach goers. Avid 4-wheel-drivers with permits are allowed to drive along the beach, while keen fishermen tend to enjoy launching their boats off the south end or from the gutters and rocks. The beach also has a range of facilities open to the public including picnic tables, barbecues, sheltered areas, showers, toilets, camping sites as well as a handful of cafes and restaurants.
