Eastern Beach Geelong

Geelong's flasgship foreshore area is, despite its name, far more than just a beach; it's a veritable hub of activity that serves as the city's main meeting point and provides numerous facilities for enjoying a quality day outdoors. There are multiple ways to enjoy a day at Eastern Beach, from the obvious appeal of swimming or relaxing on the beach itself, to enjoying a picnic, to simply taking a walk. Having been in operation in some form dating back to the 1930's, Eastern Beach still contains remnants of the Art Deco style characteristic of that era including its kiosk, changing rooms and staircase, as well as a number of sculptures that help add additional character to the scenery. Eastern Beach offers a wonderful and safe swimming area for all ages, with its semi-circular enclosed swimming area quite large in size while being protected from both the elements and sharks. It comes equipped with a dedicated shallower wading area for younger children, too, as well as a diving tower for those looking for an additional thrill. The foreshore area's lovely, well-constucted boardwalk stretches all the way around to Geelong's wharf area and is both wheelchair and pram friendly, while those looking for a bite to eat can stroll over to the wide range of restaurants and cafes just across the road. It's a great spot for families in particular, as in addition to the safe swimming, there's great play areas, and a mini-train that runs from the beach to the iconic local Carousel / Merry-Go-Round on that waterfront. Add in plenty of grassy space for enjoying or cooking your own food, and this is one of Geelong's best overall things to do.
