Bellarine Rail Trail Geelong

This excellent walking and cycling track that links Geelong with the coastal town of Queenscliff makes for an excellent combination of both scenery and exercise for those wanting to experience the scenic nature of the region's Bellarine Peninsula. Featuring a route that follows the remnants of old rail tracks - which can still be seen for portions of the trail - the Bellarine Rail Trail is suitable for walking and biking alike, with a total length of around 32km that takes roughly 4 hours return at an average pace. The trail itself consists of a mixture of both hard-packed and properly sealed terrain, which makes it mostly doable on a standard road bike outside of periods of recent heavy rainfall. Scenery-wise, the trail is quite pleasant, and showcases a great mixture of green and blue landscapes consisting of farm paddocks and olive orchards backed by the calm blue ocean waters the closer one gets to Queenscliff proper. There have also been some sections of lovely, colourful flora added by local volunteers that help to add splashes of additional colour to the backdrop of the trail. It's also a fairly easy track to navigate, as the lack of steep slopes on the Bellarine Rail Trail makes it highly accessible even to casual walkers or riders, while it also offers plenty of shaded areas along the way for taking a break. Continually being upgraded by local authorities, and showcasing a number of iconic remains of rail history, the Bellarine Rail Trail offers a flexible, outdoor activity for those in Geelong that's entirely free to enjoy.
