The WWII Oil Storage Tunnels

What you can expect

Built during WWII, the World War II Oil Storage Tunnels are one of Darwin’s more unique tourist attractions. Located at the Darwin Waterfront Precinct, take your time to explore these historic tunnels before taking in the beauty of the waterfront also. Open 7 days a week, the versatility of their opening hours mean that the tunnels are one experience you can’t miss! Take a tour underground and discover the rich history that awaits. For a small price, ($8 for adults, and $5 for children), you can learn the large role these tunnels played in the Australian defence during World War II. Lining the walls you’ll find photographs of the men and women who served for the country, as well as interesting artefacts recovered from the war. You’ll even get to meet the ‘Digger Man’ – a statue fully constructed from items and materials collected during WWII!
