What you can expect

One of the most extensive catalogues of military aircraft in the southern hemisphere can be found at this excellent Christchurch attraction. With a visit to the Air Force Museum of New Zealand, aviation enthusiasts can get up close to some of the Royal New Zealand Air Force's premier examples of aircraft dating back to pre-WWI. Located on the former site of the Wigram Air Force Base, the museum is made up of a range of interactive and educational exhibits that strive to be hands-on wherever possible - a factor that helps make for an attraction all ages can enjoy. These include its new hands-on flight simulator - Mosquito Mission - and a number of other modern touches that help add to the enjoyment of such exhibitions. The museum offers guided tours around the grounds for behind-the-scenes views of the exhibits, as well as the chance to climb inside a Bristol Freighter. Entry into the museum is free as is the tour which is conducted three times a day at 11am, 1:30pm and 3pm.
