What you can expect

Russell in the Bay of Islands is home to the oldest surviving church in all of New Zealand; Christ Church. Built in 1835 and standing strong to this day, the Church is believed to be the oldest building in the country still being used for its original purpose. Services are still held in the church on a weekly basis from 10:30am every Sunday and all are welcome to attend the service. If visiting, you can also follow the digital cemetery walk from Hikoi Tahi Walking Tours, which will take you on an audio journey around the graves to learn about the area and some of the people buried here. So whether you're looking to join the local congregation for mass or simply wander around the grounds, the local community welcomes all.
