One Tree Hill

What you can expect

For exceptional views of Auckland city make your way up Maungakiekie, otherwise known as One Tree Hill. Rising up 182 metres, this volcanic peak is the largest, intact volcanic cone in Auckland - apart from Rangitoto - and is a relaxing drive, walk or cycle up. The volcano is made up of three craters and a lava field that stretches all the way out to the Manukau shoreline. A place of significance for Māoris, as it was once the location of pā, a village/defensive settlement. The summit is open on a daily basis from 7am until 8:30pm during the summer months and from 7am until 7pm in the winter months. Getting to the summit is easy as the road will take you right to the top and includes a number of carparks for visitors. There are also a number of facilities on top of the summit for public use (see below for full list), which will make spending an entire day here relaxing and enjoyable.
