Behind The Experience Melbourne Star
By ChloeWelcome back to our brand new ‘Behind the Experience' series, where we take you behind the scenes to meet the friendly faces behind all of our extraordinary experiences across Australia and New Zealand.
In this feature, we chat to Stan, one of the wonderful Duty Technicians at Melbourne Star. Stan has kindly given us a sneak peek into life in Melbourne and his role at Melbourne Star, the Southern Hemisphere’s only observation wheel and a must-visit attraction in the heart of the popular Docklands district.

1. Please tell us a little bit about yourself and what you love most about your job?
My name is Stan, and I am a Duty Technician here at Melbourne Star. I started at the Melbourne Star in late August 2019. As a member of the Technical Service team, my job mainly focuses on the functioning of the wheel to ensure everything is running smoothly in all technical aspects so visitors can come and enjoy the sights of Melbourne in one of our cabins, whether it be day or night.
There are many things I love about my job here at Melbourne Star from the great staff I work with, to heading up to the capital which is located 60 metres in the air supporting the centre of Melbourne Star. I ensure the wheel is operating at its optimum level so our visitors can embrace the views of Melbourne while being in a cabin on the Star. There’s never a dull moment!

2. What can visitors expect when they visit the Melbourne Star?
Regardless of the time our visitors choose to come, day or night, they will enjoy the city views of Melbourne from the peak of 120 metres high on Melbourne Star. Sights & Lights is my preferred ticket option though, cause you get to do both.
3. When you aren’t busy welcoming visitors at Melbourne Star, what is your favourite place to holiday in Australia and why?
Based on my Greek heritage I go back to Greece when I can to holiday, especially Meteora and the Parthenon. However, they do say Melbourne is a lot like Greece, so I do love a staycation, especially drinking a nice frappe in Oakleigh, almost feels like you are in Greece.
4. What is your favourite hidden gem in Melbourne?
Well, it would have to be either the Thornbury Bar & Food truck down High Street (blink and you’ll miss it), or the bar down Malthouse Lane “Eau de Vie” with their wide range of whiskeys available.

5. Why must Australian’s come along and take a ride on the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel at least once in their lifetime?
I would have to say to come and enjoy the skyline views of Melbourne from Melbourne Star. There is no better time to visit then around sunset, watching the sky change colours 120 metres high is definitely a lot better than on ground level, trust me!
Buy your tickets online for the Melbourne Star wheel and get some outstanding views of Melbourne city and its many highlights at both day and night in the heart of the popular Docklands district.
