The Whitsunday Islands are an archipelago full of islands of varying sizes, the largest of which is Whitsunday Island itself, that are located off the central coast of Queensland. The group's commercial centre is based on Hamilton Island, and as can be imagined the Whitsundays are one of the most popular Great Barrier Reef , island cruise, and yachting destinations in the entire Southern hemisphere. The entire group consists of a total of 74 islands, but the main tourist activities centre on Whitsunday Island, Hamilton Island, Daydream Island, Hook Island, Long Island, Dent Island, Hayman Island and Esk Island. Tours to each of these island are available throughout the year, with each individual island consisting of its own pluses and minuses, yet all offering an amazing reef experience; a result reflected in the approximately 750,000 tourists who visit the islands every year.
