I went here with my husband in Feb 2013. He was excited about the idea of finding a good thunder egg, but I was not too sure....We had a delicious lunch at the Rainforest Kiosk, before heading to the Thunder Egg Mine. We were given some advise on what to look for, along with a bucket and pick to search for the treasures. After a short but beautiful walk through rainforest to the mining site we begun digging. After not long we had found a few small rocks which we believed to be Thunder Eggs. My husband then found a whopper of a rock that he was convinced was a thunder egg also. When we retured to the Rock Shop to see what we had found I was pleasantly surprised to find all the 'rocks' we found were all Thunder Eggs, including the huge one my husband found! We will go back again. It was a fun and unique afternoon out and the drive up to Tamborine Mountain is full of great scenery too.

THUNDEREGG FOSSICKING

Formed over the course of millions of years, the beautiful geological treasures that are Thunder Eggs can be found on this fossicking adventure at Tamborine Mountain's Thunderbird Park in the Gold Coast Hinterland. These hidden artefacts of the past have remained in their location yet may be unearthed within a matter of minutes from the depths of prehistoric lava and ancient earth. ThunderEgg fossicking is both an educational and fun experience, and you'll be given an informative explanation on Thunder Eggs and how to find them, as well as the use of a pick and bucket to collect your treasures.

Once you've harvested some eggs, you'll be able to cut them open with our purpose-built, diamond-edged saw blades to reveal the shimmering beauty of the multicoloured, marble-like texture that can be found inside and that makes the Thunder Eggs so special! The thunder eggs can be found in all sizes, ranging from a few grams in weight to over 600 kilograms, and they almost all contain interesting fillings of various minerals and gem-like textures.
