Much like the Gold Coast to the South, the Sunshine Coast is less a traditional city and more a collection of united suburbs stretched out along a large strip of coastal land. Located approximately one and a half hour's drive North of the capital city of Queensland, Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast definitely lives up to its name - the city boasts one of the highest numbers of clear, sunny days of any city in Australia. As can be expected from such a location, the city is a hotspot for visitors who enjoy the beach and other water and marine-based activities, with pastimes such as kayaking, cable and water skiing, surfing, and jet boating being exceptionally popular. The city is accessible both by road from Brisbane and by its domestic airport which is located on the North side of the city's centre.
