Hervey Bay is one of the best locations to view the humpback whales on their annual migrations between July and November.

The large sheltered bay offers them a perfect rest area and playground on their long journey from Antarctic waters to their warm tropical calving grounds.

On their return south, the whales again stop to rest and frolic, giving visitors on board whale watching vessels the added bonus of seeing the calves. They are usually very inquisitive of their surroundings, and like to get close to eye the boats, and those happy earthlings on board.
