So you’re heading to the theme parks soon? Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the fun day out. We cover all 3 of the Village Roadshow theme parks in here, so whether you’re hitting 1 or all, read on to get in on our best tips and tricks.

Parent swap is a thing...

Have a little one that can’t go on the ride? Parent Swap allows you person to enjoy the ride as the second waits with the child. When the first person finishes their ride, the second person (whether you’re a parent, friend or guardian, can then go to the front of the line to enjoy the next ride. Sweeeet!

Best time to visit the parks?

It depends! The Oz school holidays are a busy time for the parks, meaning the waiting times may be longer. If you want to avoid the crowds, it’s best to visit outside of these periods, especially on a weekday. However, as the park operates all days of the year, rides may be under maintenance during these less busy times.

Beat the crowd before opening

Particularly in peak holiday periods, we recommend rocking up 15-20 minutes before the park opens to ensure you can do the rides, you’re keen on before it packs up. All parks open at 10:00am so get ready in line at around 9:40am – 9:45am.

Check for ride maintenance

As parks operate all year, each attraction needs to go under maintenance at some point. Check the Village Roadshow app or website for any ride closures ahead of the day. We know it can be disheartening it can be to be excited for certain rides, only for it to be closed for maintenance. So be sure to check to avoid disappointment or choose another time to go.

Everyone can have fun

Wheelchair hire is complimentary at all parks and is recommended to pre-book with each park’s Guest Services. For guests who require wheelchair accessibility support, it’s recommended to visit Guest Services to discuss rider suitability. There are numerous attractions that are accessible via wheelchair and staff will provide a guide to ensure your fun.

Hiring lockers

There is a locker bay near the Photo Centre and Green Lantern Coaster, with costs ranging from $12 to $20 depending on size.

Can I take food in?

You can bring fruit and bottled water. However, you aren’t allowed to bring food or drinks including eskies. Unless you have dietary requirements including allergies, infants or pre-booked education groups.

Plan your day around the appearances

Movie World is home to iconic characters with scheduled experiences like meet & greets, stunt drivers, the Batmobile and street performances. So, make sure to take note of what you want to see and plan your rides around it.

Sea World, Gold Coast

Slip, slop, slap

The sun can be brutal and as tempted you are to leave your skin out for the water. It’s important to stay covered, and slap on the sun protection.

Plan the day ahead

Sea World is a fun-filled park with plethora of rides, shows and exhibitions. And you don’t want to finish the day feeling you missed out on what you wanted to see. So map out the timed shows that you want to see to fit the rides and exhibits around those times.

Located on the Top Terrace, you can hire a locker from $12 - $20.

Wet'n'Wild, Gold Coast

No need for the wallet

You’ll be given a waterproof wristband that can be tapped through the park. Just add the credit and you’re good to go for snacks, drinks and souvenirs etc.

And if you don’t spend it all, you get it back at the end of the day.

Can I take food in?

While the other two parks allow only fruit and bottled water, Wet’n’Wild permits food packed in lunchboxes/eskies (excluding commercially prepared food), and non-alcoholic beverages in plastic or tin containers. Glass containers of any kind are not allowed so make sure to pack right!

Hire lockers

It’s well worth hiring a locker to home your personal belongings and wallet. Its code locked so anyone can come to collect without needing a key. Another thing to not lose.

There are 4 precincts and 20 attractions

From Calypso Beach to the Double Barrel, there’s something for the thrill-seekers and the families. Plan ahead for which rides, slides and sections you want to do the most. You’ll find first thing in the morning and the last hour of the day are the quietest, so it may be best to hit your favourites then.
