Auckland – New Zealand's largest city – is in a unique geographical location compared to most large cities as it sits on top of a large volcanic field meaning that, wherever you are within the city, a slope of the volcanic variety is never far from view. Auckland is built on a narrow stretch of land between two harbours and is surrounded by a series of picturesque islands, with its harbours and the great number of yachts that populate it lending the its defacto title of the “City of Sails.”
